Accountant – General Ledger (GL)
Finance & Accounting
K sh 120,000 – 200,000 gross / month
Openings: 1 Location: Nairobi Overview: Our client is on the hunt for a GL Accountant who believes in clean books, crisp reconciliations, and a month-end close that doesn’t spill into the next one. This role calls for someone who treats every figure like a clue and every variance like a personal mystery to solve. You’ll be the quiet hero behind the scenes, making sure everything ties, balances, and makes the auditors smile instead of frown. If spreadsheets are your playground and you get a small thrill from a perfectly reconciled account, you’ll fit right in. The team is sharp, structured, and values discipline, but they still know how to laugh during long closings (especially when coffee’s involved). It’s steady, satisfying work for someone who loves order and precision, the kind of person who double-checks the math even when it’s already correct. Key Responsibilities: -Prepare journals; maintain GL, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets & depreciation. - Perform bank/AR/AP/payroll reconciliations; clear aged recon items quickly. - Support audit packs, schedules, and walkthroughs for internal/external audits. - File VAT/PAYE/NSSF/NHIF & WHT accurately and on time. - Maintain finance SOPs; enforce control checklists and close calendars. - Assist budgeting/forecast updates; draft monthly variance commentary. - Drive month-end timetable and publish close status to stakeholders. Education & Experience: - BCom/BSc Finance & Accounting; CPA II+ preferred. - 2–4 years GL accounting experience. Skills & Tools: - SAP/Odoo/QuickBooks, Excel (pivots/lookups), attention to detail, deadline discipline. KPIs: - Close cycle time; recon ageing; filing timeliness; audit issues closed. Compensation (Kenya): KES 120,000–200,000 + annual bonus (10–15%). Figures are estimates provided by our clients and vary based on your experience, interview performance, certifications, and company pay bands. Benefits: - Medical, pension, and CPD budget. Growth Path (hierarchy/expected promotions): - Senior Accountant → Finance Supervisor → Finance Manager. This is the ideal hierarchy inside the client’s company and thus the expected growth cycle for this position.
