Head Teacher / School Principal (Day School)

Education

K sh 190,000 – 300,000 gross / month

Openings: 1 Location: Nairobi Overview: Leading a school is as much about shaping minds as it is about shaping systems. In this role, you’ll steer a K–8 day school through an exciting expansion, guiding it from single-stream classes to a full second stream per grade. The school values literacy-first pedagogy, inclusion, and measurable learning outcomes, and you’ll be the linchpin turning these ambitions into day-to-day classroom impact. Expect data-driven instructional walk-throughs, structured teacher coaching, and hands-on problem-solving whenever challenges arise. Our client is looking for a Head Teacher who can blend academic leadership with operational acumen. You’ll set termly targets, oversee timetables, staffing, and teacher evaluations, and ensure every policy, whether safeguarding, discipline, or wellness, is implemented consistently. The role also demands budget stewardship, procurement oversight, and governance over fee collection, audits, and compliance with MoE/KNEC standards. Beyond the classroom and spreadsheets, this is a role that requires exceptional stakeholder management. You’ll chair Board and PTA meetings, communicate strategy and performance clearly, and escalate risks with actionable plans. Parent engagement, teacher retention, and a positive school culture will all sit on your shoulders, requiring a combination of empathy, decisiveness, and strategic foresight. Ultimately, this position offers full-spectrum leadership: you shape academic priorities, mentor educators, safeguard student welfare, and ensure the school not only grows but thrives sustainably. You’ll be measured on improvements in student outcomes, attendance, teacher satisfaction, and audit readiness, bringing tangible results to the heart of a thriving learning community. Key Responsibilities: - Set academic priorities and termly targets; run data-driven teacher coaching. - Lead staffing, timetabling, observations, and performance appraisals. - Oversee safeguarding, discipline policy, and wellness programs. - Manage budgets, procurement, audits, and fee collection governance. - Chair PTA/Board meetings; escalate risks with clear action plans. - Ensure compliance with MoE/KNEC standards; maintain inspection readiness. Education & Experience: - B.Ed or PGDE + TSC registration; 7–10 years teaching with 3+ years in leadership. Skills & Tools: - Instructional leadership, budgeting, stakeholder communication, MIS (e.g., Kinetic/EdAdmin), and safeguarding. KPIs: -Mean grade improvements, attendance, teacher retention, parent satisfaction, and audit findings closed. Compensation (Kenya): KES 190,000–300,000 base + annual performance bonus. Figures are estimates based on our clients' experiences and vary depending on your seniority, interview performance, and other factors. Benefits: - Medical (in/outpatient), pension, training/CPD, staff fee waivers, 30–35 leave days aligned to the school calendar. Growth Path (hierarchy/expected promotions): - Head Teacher → Director of Academics → Group Schools Director. This is the ideal hierarchy inside the client’s company and thus the expected growth cycle.
