Openings: 1 Location: Nairobi – Githurai 44 (Kahawa Sukari border / Thika Rd service) Overview: Imagine a space where books, curiosity, and digital resources collide. This is the hub you’ll run as Librarian. You’ll not only manage borrowing and cataloguing but also spark a reading culture, guide research projects, and coach students on digital literacy. Our client values someone who can blend the charm of classic library stewardship with the demands of modern tech-enabled learning. Beyond shelving and checkouts, you’ll lead reading clubs, author visits, and workshops that make information come alive. Think of it as being a navigator for young minds, helping them explore, question, and cite their way through knowledge. Your day might swing from curating age-appropriate collections to troubleshooting the computer bays, or from designing termly usage reports to collaborating with teachers on research projects. It’s a role that’s structured yet playful, where organization meets creativity. At the heart of it, your impact will be measurable in higher borrowing rates, active participation in events, and a tangible lift in students’ information-literacy skills. You’re not just managing a library; you’re shaping how students interact with knowledge. Key Responsibilities: - Manage cataloguing, circulation, and inventory; track losses. - Curate collections; run reading clubs and author talks. - Teach research skills, citation, and safe internet practices. - Supervise computer bays; maintain acceptable-use rules. - Produce termly reports on usage, gaps, and reading outcomes. Education & Experience: - Diploma/Degree in Library/Information Science; 2–4 years in a school/college library. Skills & Tools: - Koha/Libsuite, cataloguing, programming, reading events, basic IT support. KPIs: - Borrowing rates, event participation, loss/shrinkage %, information-literacy outcomes. Compensation (Kenya): KES 70,000–110,000 + collection development stipend. Client estimates vary with experience, your interview overview, and the systems you've used plus made before.
