Expect to mentor juniors, showing them how to verify sources rigorously, navigate FOIA-style requests, and stay safe while in the field. You’ll run live coverage plans, file quick-turn explainers, and adapt stories for web, mobile, and social audiences. Every headline, thumbnail, and edit is a decision that shapes engagement and trust, so attention to detail and speed must go hand-in-hand. Analytics will guide your choices as much as instinct. Time-to-publish, returning visitors, session duration, and scoop rate aren’t just numbers; they’re signals of impact. You’ll refine headlines, packaging, and storytelling approaches constantly, balancing audience appetite with journalistic integrity. This role sits at the intersection of craft, leadership, and strategy. The path is clear: Senior Multimedia Journalist → Desk Editor → Managing Editor (Digital). You’ll own both content quality and the culture of the digital newsroom, ensuring your team not only meets deadlines but also elevates the way stories are told. Key Responsibilities: - Report, script, shoot and edit for web + social; file clean copy on deadline. - Run verification checklists; coordinate with desk editor and legal. - Lead live coverage plans; produce quick-turn explainers and Q&As. - Mentor interns/juniors; set beat agendas and weekly story pipelines. - Track analytics; iterate headlines, thumbnails, and packaging. Education & Experience: - BA Journalism/Communication/IR (Daystar, USIU, UoN, KCA, Riara, MMU); 5–8 yrs newsroom. Skills & Tools: - Mobile journalism, Premiere/Final Cut, Lightroom, newsroom CMS, AP style, media law basics. KPIs: - Accuracy; time-to-publish; session duration; returning users; scoop rate. Compensation (Kenya): KES 185,000–285,000 base + monthly performance kicker (up to 12%). Salary figures are estimates from our clients.
