Openings: 1 Location: Nairobi – Ridgeways (Kiambu Rd / Muthaiga North axis) Overview: Light shapes perception, and as a Lighting Designer/Operator, you’ll be the magician behind every mood, color, and shadow on stage. From theatre productions to concerts and branded activations, your work sets the scene, guides the audience’s eye, and amplifies the story being told. Precision, timing, and creativity are non-negotiable. Our client is looking for someone who can turn artistic concepts into executable, electrifying realities. You’ll balance aesthetic goals with rig capabilities, patch efficiently, and manage power safely while delivering consistent cues under tight schedules. Every show is a live puzzle, and you’ll solve it with flair. Collaboration drives this role. You’ll coordinate with set designers, sound engineers, and stage managers, ensuring focus, gels, and addresses match the director’s vision. Programming cue stacks and building palettes is just the start; maintaining fixture logs and documenting shows ensures repeatable perfection. Technical excellence matters as much as artistry. You’ll calculate loads, enforce electrical safety, and manage emergency lighting while adapting to changing venues, touring rigs, or late-stage changes. Quick thinking and calm execution are your allies in high-pressure environments. Success is measured in flawless cues, zero downtime, and client delight. The role opens pathways to Senior Lighting Designer, Production Designer, and ultimately Technical Director (Lighting), letting you shape the visual experience of live shows at the highest level. Key Responsibilities: - Design plots; specify fixtures; prep rig & patch. - Program consoles; build palettes, groups, and cue stacks. - Focus, gel, address; coordinate with set/sound teams. - Ensure electrical safety, load calculations, and emergency lighting. - Document shows; maintain fixture logs. Education & Experience: - Theatre/Lighting/EE diplomas + 3–5 yrs show ops. Skills & Tools: - MA/Chamsys/ETC desks, DMX/Art-Net, power safety, drafting. KPIs: - Cue accuracy, rig uptime, client satisfaction, power incidents = 0. Compensation (Kenya): KES 120,000–190,000 + show allowances. Estimates vary with console experience, touring availability, overnight work, and rig size. Peak-season spikes and festival packages may raise pay temporarily.
