As a Library Assistant, you’ll manage circulation, maintain tidy catalogues, and help students find books that spark their interest, from reluctant readers to avid learners. Every interaction shapes their engagement and love for reading. Our client values organization, initiative, and a genuine passion for books. You’ll modernize catalog entries, curate booklists by reading level, and work closely with English teachers on termly reading challenges, author events, and guided study sessions. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential for a smoothly running library. Daily tasks include issuing and returning books, shelving, repairing covers, maintaining logs, and supporting class visits or book fairs. The role requires balancing routine maintenance with creativity in promoting reading and student engagement. Over time, you’ll develop skills in catalog management, student interaction, and program facilitation. Key Responsibilities: - Issue/return books; shelve; catalog new arrivals. - Run reading logs; recommend titles by level. - Repair covers; maintain a tidy, welcoming space. - Support class visits and book fairs. Education & Experience: - Certificate/Diploma in Library/Records/Education; 0–2 years. Skills: - Catalog discipline (Dewey basics), customer service, spreadsheet basics. KPIs: - Overdue rate, circulation volume, catalog accuracy, and student satisfaction. Compensation (Kenya): - Base: KES 45,000–62,000. - Book-fair stipend: KES 2,000–3,000 per event.
